Choral Art Society Sandwich

Join the Choral Art Society of the South Shore at our 66th annual Spring concert! We’re celebrating the 20th season singing with our Artistic Director and Conductor, Danica A. Buckley.

We will join together with Cape Cod Chorale and a full orchestra, over 120 singers and musicians total. The concert, “Harmony for Hope and Resilience” will feature three great choral-orchestral works:

  • Johannes Brahms “Nanie”
  • Florence Price “Song of Hope”
  • Ralph Vaughan Williams “Dona Nobis Pacem”

All three pieces balance somber text with the eternal beauty of art and nature. The lush orchestration and flowing choral lines depart a sense of wonder. It’s a tribute not only to those who have passed but also to the enduring power of music and the hope for peace.

We are proud to say this concert is the South Shore premiere of Florence Price’s “Song of Hope.” This lesser known work from Price complements the overarching themes of resilience, unity, and healing. Its message is universal and profoundly relevant today. The work is a testament to hope as a sustaining force, particularly significant given Price’s experiences as an African American woman composer in early 20th-century America.

There are two performances to choose from: Saturday, May 3rd at Sandwich High School and Sunday, May 4th at Scituate Center for the Performing Arts.
