Patrick Browne will speak about local legend “King Caesar,” also known as Ezra Weston II. The Weston family merchant and shipbuilding firm was established before the Revolution by Ezra Weston I. In time, it became Duxbury’s largest business and dominated local affairs. The firm dramatically expanded when son Ezra Weston II (who resided in the “King Caesar House”- See Photo) took the helm. Weston vessels traded around the world, shipped record-breaking cargoes, and were renowned for their superior construction. Browne will go beyond the old mythology, analyzing the Weston firm’s business patterns. He will describe the key factors to King Caesar’s success and humanize a fascinating figure of local legend.
