The critically acclaimed original Broadway musical Once comes to the Priscilla Beach Theatre (PBT) stage from August 3 through August 19. Based on the 2007 Oscar winning film by John Carney, Once is set in Dublin and tells the story of “Guy”, a disillusioned songwriter and street musician who crosses paths with “Girl”, a determined young Czech immigrant as well as talented pianist and singer. Their mutual love of music draws them together and sets them on an unexpected path in this captivating and powerful love story. Throughout their musical journey the couple is surrounded by a strong cast of actors who are also gifted musicians and who accompany them on a multitude of instruments.
“Once is a phenomenal show in every way,” says Bob Malone, PBT owner and guardian. “It’s definitely not your average boy meets girl love story tied up with a bow. It’s unique and tender with a dash of heartache, in a good way.” According to Malone, Once is renowned for demanding a multi-talented cast of actors who must also be gifted musicians. “The entire cast is outstanding. It’s so impressive to see them put down one instrument and pick up another instrument after instrument, multiple times. The musical numbers get going full tilt and the show practically explodes off the stage. The sense of urgency is a beautiful thing and I can’t wait to see how audiences will be blown away by what they experience. It’s sure to become everyone’s new favorite.”
