This full-day session will allow children time to do the things on the farm and in the forest they love like spending time with our animals, working in the garden, and exploring. Each week will feature a different theme. Mornings will be spent on activities that feature the week’s theme. In the afternoon, children will engage in more traditional farm camp activities like arts and crafts, homesteading activities, games and farm exploration. Ages 7-10 years.
Session 1: July 7-11: Birds, Bats and Bees: Birds, bats and bees are keystones for every healthy habitat and this program will focus on how they help humans. Kids will make bat boxes, learn how to identify birds by sight and sound and do some planting for the bees. Games and crafts are also part of each days’ activities.
Session 2: July 21-25: Animal Caretakers: This popular program returns for another summer. Children will spend time each day doing animal chores and activities that will help to improve the life of the animal ambassadors at SHEC. Games, art projects and some simple animal training will be a part of every day.
Session 3: August 4-8: Playing With Plants: In this week children will learn about and work with plants, from small garden plants to trees. Making terrariums, decorating pots and growing plants are all parts of this week, along with games and crafts that feature plants/trees.
