Trace the journey of Mayflower baby Peregrine White, born aboard the ship in Plymouth Harbor, December 1620, through a lifespan that paralleled the history of Plymouth Colony itself in a new book by local historian Stephen C. O’Neill, published by the Marshfield Historical Society. Peregrine White came of age during the Colony’s formative years and outlived its demise by nearly a decade. Drawing on a wide range of archival sources, O’Neill traces the many facets of White’s life, from colonial childhood to his military career and late-in-life religious awakening. What emerges is a fascinating portrait of a 17th-century American shaped by an evolving settler society.
