Have you ever wondered what the Mayflower Pilgrims and the colonists that came on the later ships brought with them to the shores of New England? It wasn’t like today. If you forgot to pack something, you simply would have to do without it, potentially for a very long time. Everything from the clothes you would need, the food you would eat, the tools of whatever trade you expected to have once you arrived had to be brought with you.

Using historical accounts, the New Plimmoth Gard will present a weekend encampment filled with the items that came with the colonists. See what a housewife would bring to set up a household, the tools a farmer would bring in order to provide for his family, and what various craftsmen would bring in order to work their trades here in the New World. There will also be demonstrations of the muskets, pikes, swords, and armor that all able-bodied men were required to have.

This free, family-friendly event will be hosted by the Plymouth Antiquarian Society on the grounds of the 1809 Hedge House Museum Saturday, October 7 from 10am-4pm and Sunday, October 8 from 11am-3pm.
