The Scituate Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation of local historical sites and the education of young and old alike. They are headquartered at the Kathleen Laidlaw Center, also known as “The Little Red School House”, which was purchased from the Town of Scituate in 1984 for $1. This building houses the Society’s genealogical and historical library, administrative center, archives and a gift shop. The Scituate Historical Society is a South Shore leader in local history.
For years it has been in the forefront with its innovative and educational programs. Explore their many dynamic historic sites and visit their Maritime and Irish Mossing Museum filled three centuries of South Shore seafaring heritage.
Visitors are invited to examine the Society’s comprehensive photograph and print archives on early Scituate history, or browse their extensive genealogical library on 17th century South Shore families. The gift shop contains over 30 titles on Scituate’s history, lighthouses and maritime museum t-shirts, tote bags, and much more. The Grand Army Hall is available for rent. Hours of Operation: 10:00 AM-4:00 PM Monday-Friday 10:00 AM-2:00PM Saturday. Closed on Wednesday.
