May is one of the most beautiful times of the year in New England, which makes it ideal for visiting Plymouth County. With an abundance of gardens, parks, and conservation land, there are beautiful places all around to visit this spring. Be sure to bring sunscreen and your camera so you can fully enjoy all the flowers, sunshine, and greenery nature has to offer.
Over in Sandwich, MA, the Heritage Museums & Gardens is open from April through October so visitors can see the spectacular flower gardens. Spring in particular features Dexter Rhododendrons and flowering trees. You can also view the daffodils in all their glory as well as star magnolias and cherries. By the middle of May the crabapple trees, viburnums, epimedium, lungwort, and flowering quince will all be flowering in a stunning display.
Be sure to return throughout the year to view the spectacular 100 acres of trees and shrubs, bee hotels, flowering gardens, sweeping lawns, and more. You can walk along miles of nature trails to view the property coming to life with greenery and flowers, go bird watching, and take beautiful pictures. It’s truly a place you shouldn’t miss.
The largest park in eastern Massachusetts, Myles Standish State Forest in South Carver is the size of Manhattan. With all this open land to explore, you’re sure to see so much incredible beauty this spring.
Travel deep into the full forest of pine and oak trees along 13 miles of marked hiking trails to catch glimpses of wildflowers and birds building their nests this spring. You can also get a camping site by one of the four beautiful ponds beginning in May, meaning you’ll have a stunning view of the stars at night.
Located on a peninsula in Hingham, MA, World’s End is a 251-acre park and conservation area. It’s a popular place to visit any time of the year, but spring is especially stunning, so remember to bring binoculars and a camera. Walk the winding carriage paths toward rolling hills and rocky shorelines and experience sweeping views of the Boston skyline.
If you plan on visiting, make sure to plan ahead, as advance passes are required for weekends and holidays. They’re also encouraged for weekday visits, though on-site sales are possible if there is capacity.
Ellisville Harbor State Park in Plymouth, MA is one of the most scenic spots on the South Shore coastline. With a rolling meadow, lush red pine forest, stunning salt marshes, and sparkling water, it’s truly a diverse and beautiful place to visit in the spring.
