Dining

March 7, 2022

The South Shore has more to its culinary reputation than just seafood. Everyone loves a lobster roll, a pound of steamers, some fries and a beer, but what if you want to try something different? Here are just a few of the wonderful international styles of cuisine you’ll discover on the South Shore.

Kogi Bar and Grill

Nestled right in the heart of historic downtown Plymouth, Kogi Bar and Grill offers a wide selection of classic Korean fare as well as a great selection of sushi and cocktails. Since it’s starting to get cooler out, why not try a bowl of the chicken katsu ramen or try something a little fancy and go for the wagyu ramen. And don’t forget to leave with some of their homemade hot sauce or dumpling sauce.

The Mea Thai Cuisine

In Thai “mea” means “wife,” and the slogan at The Mea is “Thai food by Thai wife.” It goes without saying that food and family are at the heart of this establishment. The Mea serves authentic Thai food inspired by recipes Mika, “The Wife” and owner, learned and enjoyed while growing up in Bangkok. She also obtained a Master’s culinary degree in Thailand. Choose from an array of stir-fry options, noodle soups and traditional curries. Fancy something totally unique? Try one of the E-Saan dishes. A blend of Thai and Lao flavors and cooking techniques, check out the papaya salad, moo yang (Thai-style BBQ pork) or the nham tok moo (grilled pork with red onions and herbs with roasted rice dressing and side of fresh cucmber).

Mamma Mia’s

Perfectly situated in the heart of the Pinehills neighborhood in Plymouth, Mamma Mia’s has been cooking your favorite Italian dishes on the South Shore since 1974. The Viscariello family opened the original Mamma Mia’s in Kingston. Today there are six locations across the region, all of them providing high quality Italian classics and warm, welcoming hospitality. The restaurant at Pinehills includes a viewable pizza oven and watch as your delicious, house made pizza comes together, a gorgeous patio perfect for good weather days and a full bar. Try fan favorites like eggplant tower or stuffed mushrooms. Looking for a good idea for date night? Try stopping in on a Tuesday, they offer a Dinner for Two ($45). The specials change every day, and there’s no shortage of options to choose from.Delight in International Cuisine on the South Shore Secret

Caravela Restaurant

In the 1800s, many immigrant populations settled in the South Shore region of Massachusetts. The whaling industry hit its peak in the United States between the 1840s and 70s. As many as 75 whaling ships left port at New Bedford in 1841 alone. Many of the families that settled in Fall River were Portuguese and as such, the town is full of Portuguese history and culture. If you’re looking for authentic Portuguese cuisine, stop by Caravela. Explore classic flavors in the form of soups, sandwiches and platters you can share with plenty of friends and family.
