Get Out on the Water in Plymouth

Outdoor

May 15, 2025

As the weather warms up, our swimsuits and sun hats start calling to us to get out on the water. Whether you love to swim, fish, or sail, late spring through summer are the time to dive in. That’s why you should head to Plymouth. With the coastal waters in arm’s reach and plenty of opportunities to get out on the water, it’s the perfect place to visit when the ocean is calling to you.

Plan a Beach Day in Plymouth

Nothing says sun and fun like a trip to the beach! Whether you plan to go swimming, paddleboarding, or play in the sand, Plymouth has some fabulous beaches to visit. In particular, Plymouth Beach is a popular spot for swimming, picnicking, walking, and fishing. Part of its popularity also comes from the nearby Sandy’s; a fun, casual restaurant right on the beach. Dine on clam chowder, lobster salad, grilled salmon, and other fresh and delicious dishes.

Plymouth Beach

Admission to Plymouth Beach is free, but parking requires either a resident beach sticker or purchasing a $20 pass for both residents and non-residents. Keep in mind that during the early spring and summer portions of the beach are home to several endangered shore birds, so certain parts might be closed off.

Go Fishing in Plymouth Harbor

Do you want to get out on the water and catch a fish “this big”? Then you’ll want to grab your tackle box and book a fishing trip on Plymouth Charters. Hop aboard the F/V Fire Escape and try to catch various New England fish like cod, haddock, bluefish, sharks, and tuna. Have a child interested in fishing? Plymouth Charters runs several Kids Fishing Camp sessions for ages 7-17 so they can get out on the water and learn a fun new sport.

Plymouth Charters

You’re in good hands with Captain Mark Petitt, a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired firefighter and paramedic. With over 30 years of experience fishing and diving in the local waters, he and Plymouth Charters are ready to take you on an unforgettable fishing adventure.

Set Sail from Plymouth

Sail within the calm waters of Plymouth Harbor on a fun and relaxing cruise with Plymouth Cruises Aboard Lobster Tales. For over 25 years, they’ve offered one-of-a-kind experiences. As you sail you’ll enjoy stunning views of Plymouth Rock, the Mayflower II, and other historic coastal landmarks.

Plymouth Cruises Pirate Cruise

Unlike most other charter boats, Plymouth Cruises have a variety of unique and entertaining cruises that suit different lifestyles, groups, and interests. Choose from a list of options like a pirate cruise, lobster excursion, ice cream sundae cruise, wine cruise, sunset cruise, or harbor tour. Cruises run rain or shine all season and may be privately chartered, too, so you won’t miss out on an incredible sailing experience.

Don’t let yourself be landlocked this summer. Get out on the water by visiting Plymouth’s beaches, boats, and harbor. Go fishing, swimming, and sailing, and most importantly, make memories during your visit to America’s Hometown.
