Plymouth Rock May Be Underwhelming, See Plymouth Tourism Says “Talk To It”

September 9, 2022

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tourists come from far and wide to see the historic Plymouth Rock, but when they see it many say, “huh… it’s just a rock.” See Plymouth, the official tourism website for Plymouth, has started taking a new approach to get the public interested in coming to see the rock… by asking them to talk to it.

WBZ’s Matt Shearer decided to talk to the iconic rock himself.

Talk to the rock like the Mayflower Pilgrims, Plymouth Rock is an immigrant,” See Plymouth states on its website. To encourage visitors, they are also offering cash prizes to people who participate in talking to the rock.

“We want to share your experience after you talk to the rock. Create a social media video and you could win a cash prize of up to $500. Top five chosen videos will win money,” See Plymouth states on its website.

Those who want to participate have until November 30th to upload their videos. Winners will be announced on December 2, 2022.

Plymouth Rock is historically known as the rock the Mayflower Pilgrims stepped onto in 1620 when they disembarked off their boats and onto the land for the first time. The legitimacy of this has been argued by historians, as some say the story is a legend with little to no historical evidence.
