August may be over, but summer doesn’t officially end until September 22nd. So there’s no reason not to plan one last vacation in Plymouth County before fall takes over. In fact, you might find September to be the best time to visit the South Shore, as great attractions are still open while the tourist crowds begin to thin out.
A day at the Adventure Park at Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich is an awesome way to send off summer. It’s the best zip lining and tree climbing fun on the South Shore. Ideal for climbers of any fitness level ages seven and up, you’ll get a real high-flying adventure that will put an exclamation point on your summer memories for the year.
There are roughly 60 treetop platforms connected by bridges, ladders, zip lines and other crossings for you to explore. You’ll be briefed on safety procedures and given equipment, and friendly staff members are always on hand to help. This makes it perfect for parents who want a day out with their kids, or a group of friends who want to embrace their inner child and swing from the trees.
The end of summer vacation can be a major bummer for kids, so plan a weekend getaway to go camping at Jellystone Park Cranberry Acres in Carver. Considered one of the best campgrounds in Massachusetts for families, it offers the premier New England glamping experience. There are luxury cabins, RV sites, and traditional camping sites to set up your tent, so anyone can enjoy their camping experience.
But the fun isn’t limited to roasting marshmallows and hiking along nature trails. There are tons of things to enjoy like the on-site arcade, mini golf course, jumping pillow, laser tag, sport courts, and more! It all creates a great family bonding experience that will give your kids something to talk about when they return to school on Monday.
Speaking of Carver, you can’t miss out on the chance to visit King Richard’s Faire from August 31st to October 20th, 2024. Open every weekend, it’s a medieval spectacle that’s been a staple of Plymouth County for over 40 years. Feast on giant turkey legs, dress in fantasy costumes, try archery, watch spellbinding live entertainment, and shop for unique souvenirs at the many stalls.
King Richard’s Faire is one of the most family-friendly annual Renaissance Faires you could hope for, with excitement around every corner. Be sure to get there early, as while parking is free it’s also limited. Guests are also encouraged to skip the box office line and pre-purchase tickets so they don’t miss even a moment of fun.
Don’t think the summer fun is over just because it’s September. Check out the awesome attractions still open in Plymouth County and plan your weekend getaway to the South Shore. It’s the perfect way to end the season and create some incredible memories.
