Summer is the peak time to visit the seashore and explore Cape Cod from Plymouth to Provincetown. You can visit museums, parks, whale watch cruises, music venues, and more during your journey. Plan your next Cape Cod road trip using See Plymouth and you will surely enjoy each stop along the way.
Visiting the sites, historical and maritime landmarks and seemingly endless activities of Cape Cod during the summer is a classic New England adventure. See picturesque beaches, cruise on the waters of Cape Cod Bay or Buzzards Bay, and get to know the unique charm of the many coastal towns that make up the Cape. Here are a few of the See Plymouth locations you could explore as you take your epic Cape Cod road trip this summer.
As you embark on your Cape Cod adventure, you will come to Wareham, Massachusetts, the “Gateway of Cape Cod,” right before the Sagamore and Bourne Bridges.
Wareham offers several stops to enhance your trip, including Blue Water Farms, where you can learn all about cranberries and how they are grown and harvested. You can also stop in at Neat Lady Fishing, where you can experience a full day of fishing on Buzzards Bay or cruising down the breathtaking Cape Cod Canal.
As you cross over to the Cape proper, you will come to Sandwich, Massachusetts, known as the oldest town on Cape Cod and home to the production of Sandwich Glass in the 1800s.
Sandwich offers several stops you may want to consider on your Cape Cod adventure. Explore the Adventure Park at Heritage Museums, where the whole family can participate in an aerial ropes course. Take advantage of the seven zip lining courses, 60 challenge elements, and five treetop trails as you challenge yourself to this fun ropes course.
Looking for a more formal tour of the Cape, including Provincetown, Hyannis, and Sandwich? 6A Tours and Transportation offers private, small-group customized tours.
If a relaxing spa weekend is on your itinerary for your Cape road trip, then check out Daniel Webster Inn and Spa, where you can book a massage, facial, wax, manicure or pedicure at the Beach Plum Spa. After your spa treatment, relax in a luxury room or romantic suite or make breakfast, lunch, or dinner reservations.
Head south on Route 28 toward the southern tip of Cape Cod and explore the waterfront, including the landmark Nobska Lighthouse. While in Falmouth, history and culture lovers may want to explore the Falmouth Museums on the Green, a two-acre campus in Falmouth, Massachusetts, that offers historical exhibits, events, and tours. It features the 1790 Dr. Francis Wicks House, the 1730 Conant House, the Hallett Barn Visitor Center, the Cultural Center, and the Colonial Gardens and Memorial Park.
Want to take a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard as a part of your Cape Cod road trip? The Island Queen in Falmouth makes getting there half the fun! Enjoy a short sail to the Vineyard where you can relax along the beach, explore shops or enjoy the scrumptious seafood cuisine before you hop the ferry for your cruise home.
As you head toward the “elbow” of the Cape, a stop in Barnstable is perfect for history and water lovers alike. Take the opportunity to explore the JFK Hyannis Museum, where you can learn about the legacy of President Kennedy and his deep connection to Cape Cod, where he enjoyed special days with family and friends.
Nature and water lovers may want to take advantage of Barnstable’s connection to the ocean, where you can hop a ferry through Hy-Line Cruises to Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard or sightsee on a Hyannis Whalewatching Cruise.
The Cape Cod Melody Tent is also located in Hyannis. You can catch a show, concert or entertainment act under the iconic tent while enjoying the classic Cape Cod breezes.
