First observed in 2010, Small Business Saturday, also known as Shop Small Saturday, has become an important day to show appreciation for the millions of small businesses that are the backbone of our nation’s economy. In fact, Shop Small Saturday has grown into an annual holiday shopping tradition estimated to have raised $201 billion since its inception.
In Plymouth and along the South Shore of Massachusetts, this shopping day is an excellent way to support the locally owned shops, restaurants, and attractions concentrated in the downtown and waterfront areas, as well as across the South Shore region.
If you need ideas or inspiration on how to celebrate Shop Small Saturday, here are some ways to make the most of this special day.

Many small businesses schedule special events and offer incentives for Shop Small Saturday. Look to your local shops and markets for deals that could kick-start your holiday shopping this year.
The Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce is an excellent resource for finding participating businesses and promotions. We encourage our readers to head to downtown Plymouth, where they will find specialty shops and boutiques offering a wide range of unique local items, as well as gifts and wares perfect for the holiday season.
Beyond downtown, check out the shops near the waterfront that also offer handcrafted and one-of-a-kind items for even the most discerning people on your list. Explore the restaurants, breweries, taverns, and bakeries that offer delicious dishes and gift cards. Stay for a relaxing meal or cocktail to support these small businesses before you rush back out to complete your shopping day.
Right on Water Street is a quaint shopping village perfect for a holiday stroll and a chance to check off some of your shopping list. The Shops at Village Landing is the quintessential New England holiday shopping destination, featuring picturesque views, cobblestone streets, and specialty shops offering a wide variety of unique gift options.

The Plymouth area offers a diverse range of delicious dining options, catering to a wide variety of cuisines. Enjoy an afternoon lunch, a sweet treat at one of the bakeries or candy shops, or gather with friends for a holiday meal that will surely hit the spot. Choose from upscale dining to casual options as you dine on distinctive dishes while supporting local establishments.
To boost your experience and further support these small businesses, leave a positive review on Google, Facebook or one of the many other online review sites. Purchasing a gift card can also help small businesses with immediate cash flow and provide a treat for yourself (or others) later.
We encourage our readers to support some of Plymouth’s newest dining establishments this holiday season, including: Suji’s Kitchen, offering Indian cuisine in Kingston; Turmeric House, Indian cuisine in Weymouth; and Kogi Bar & Grill, which serves Korean cuisine and has just relocated to Main Street in Plymouth.
Leaving a positive review for any of the shops, restaurants or events you visit is a great way to give back to the small business community, which costs nothing. A few sentences about your experience can help small businesses establish loyal customer relationships and steer new customers toward them as they search online for dining options. Posting on personal social channels, while tagging the establishment, is also another valuable way to support local businesses during this busy holiday season.
